Check with the studio for specific dance attire, tights, and shoe recommendations. Appropriate dance shoes and dancewear must be worn in class. Hair must be tied back and away from the face. Long hair must be tied back with hair elastic. Label all dance shoes and outerwear. Step-By-Step, Inc. is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Dance sweaters and leggings can be worn in cold weather or during warm-up. T-shirts and loose clothing are not allowed. Failure to comply with the studio dress code will result in non-participation of class and a phone call home.
Pre-Ballet I
Solid light pink leotard, pink ballet tights and pink ballet shoes. (pink ballet skirt optional)
Pre-Ballet II
Solid light blue leotard, pink ballet tights and pink ballet shoes. (Solid pink ballet skirt optional)
Kinderdance
Solid burgundy leotard, pink ballet tights, pink ballet shoes and suntan tap shoes required. We prefer tap shoes with a buckle. (Solid pink ballet skirt optional)
Ballet
Solid black leotard, Capezio hold and stretch ballet pink tights, pink ballet and/or Pointe shoes, and ballet skirt required. Dance sweater and legging are permissible during fall and winter months.
Tap / Jazz Combo Classes
Solid black leotard, Capezio holds and stretch caramel convertible or footed tights. Suntan tap shoes (prefer tap shoes with a buckle) and white ballet slippers. Proper dance warm-ups and dance skirt are permissible.
Tap
Solid black leotard, Capezio holds and stretch caramel convertible or footed tights. Suntan tap shoes (prefer tap shoes with a buckle). Proper dance warm-ups, solid black jazz pants are permissible.
Jazz / Contemporary Modern
Solid black leotard, Capezio holds and stretch caramel convertible or footed tights, and black jazz shoes. Requirement of shoe color is meant for students in middle school and high school. Solid black jazz pants are permissible.
Hip Hop / Step/ Popping and Locking
Solid black leotard, black jazz pants, and black dance sneakers. Dancers enrolled in our 1st year hip hop classes are also required to purchase Hip Hop dance shoes for their ½ hour dance class. Students will wear their shoes in our annual concert.
Salsa / Latin / Swing
Solid black leotard, Capezio holds and stretch caramel convertible or footed tights, and black jazz shoes. Female dancers should wear a solid black practice skirt. Male dancers are required to wear a Jazz, Latin or Ballroom shoe and dress comfortably.
Irish Step
Shoe recommendation will be discussed the first two weeks of class with our trained Irish Step instructor. Please contact the studio if you have any further question. Children should wear clothes that breathe. Irish step dancing is very athletic.
Male Dancers
We like our male dancers to feel comfortable participating at our dance studio. Dancers participating in co-ed classes are expected to wear a white t-shirt and black sweat pants or jazz pants. Black tap and jazz shoes are required. Boys participating in our Hip Hop classes should dress comfortably.
